Guisela Atalida Godínez Sazo
Guisela Atalida Godínez Sazo is a Guatemalan career diplomat holding the rank of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary. Her professional trajectory spans more than three decades of service to the State of Guatemala, with extensive experience in foreign policy, bilateral and multilateral diplomacy, and high-level international representation.
Since January 4, 2021, she has served as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Guatemala to Canada. In this capacity, she has promoted the strengthening of bilateral relations, political and economic cooperation, and consular assistance to the Guatemalan community. Prior to this appointment, she served as Consul General of Guatemala in Montreal, where she contributed to enhancing consular services and strengthening ties with the Guatemalan diaspora.
Throughout her career, she has represented Guatemala as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Russian Federation, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Republic of Chile, the Kingdom of Spain, the Republic of Panama, the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, and the Cooperative Republic of Guyana. She also served as Permanent Representative to the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and to the Association of Caribbean States (ACS), actively participating in regional integration processes and multilateral cooperation initiatives.
Within the central administration of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, she has held senior-level positions, including Deputy Director General for International Economic Relations and Multilateral Affairs, as well as various roles related to foreign policy, international legal affairs, and bilateral relations.
Ambassador Godínez Sazo holds a Bachelor’s degree in Legal and Social Sciences and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of San Carlos of Guatemala. She has specialized training in international law, diplomacy, regional integration, and public administration, and is a graduate diplomat of the Antonio José de Irisarri Diplomatic Academy. She has participated in high-level economic forums and international conferences, including meetings of the OECD.
In recognition of her distinguished diplomatic service, she has been awarded the Order of Vasco Núñez de Balboa, Grand Cross, by the Republic of Panama, and the Order of Bernardo O’Higgins, Grand Cross, by the Republic of Chile.
She is fluent in English, French, and Italian. Her career reflects a sustained commitment to advancing Guatemala’s national interests, strengthening foreign policy, and promoting a professional diplomacy oriented toward cooperation and development.
