Gloria Abraham Peralta has dedicated her life to agriculture, trade and trade negotiations. An international consultant, Mrs. Abraham Peralta served as Ambassador for Costa Rica to the World Trade Organization (WTO) until late 2022, and as Chairperson of the WTO Agriculture negotiations. She previously served as Representative of the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) at its Delegation in Mexico and was also the first woman ever to be appointed as Minister of Agriculture and Livestock of Costa Rica, a position she held from 2010 to 2014. She has been the lead agriculture negotiator for many free-trade agreements that Costa Rica has negotiated. Mrs. Abraham Peralta has broad experience in international and regional organizations, having occupied different positions within IICA, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center (CATIE), the World Bank and the Central American Institute of Public Administration (ICAP). She has executed important training projects in Agricultural Trade Policy for the ministries of Agriculture of Central America. She taught at the University of Costa Rica and the National University of Costa Rica and has a long list of technical publications in her areas of specialization.
