The Honourable Zulfikar Mustapha is the Minister of Agriculture of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, appointed in 2020. He began his career representing farmers through the Guyana Agricultural and General Workers Union (1989–2002), later serving as Regional Chairman and Member of Parliament. As Minister, he has prioritized strengthening Guyana’s agri-food systems by enhancing agricultural institutions, infrastructure, and support for agribusinesses. Key efforts include expanding drainage and irrigation systems and improving farm-to-market roads to support flood control and market access.
Minister Mustapha is an active participant in regional and international dialogues on food security, disaster response, and agricultural de-risking. He currently chairs the CARICOM Special Ministerial Task Force on Food Production and Food Security, advancing the region’s goal to reduce its food import bill. Committed to sustainable transformation, he regularly engages directly with farmers across Guyana. His leadership, experience, and vision continue to drive positive change in agriculture across the nation and the Caribbean.
