A research scientist in the area of animal physiology, Dr. Schaefer serves as an adjunct professor at two Canadian universities. Formerly a level 5 Research Scientist at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, he has been a co-inventor of over 50 patents on seven different technology platforms, and he has published over 120 scientific journal manuscripts and over 400 technology transfer articles. Al is a former president of the Canadian Society of Animal Science, former editor of the Canadian Journal of Animal Science and an editorial board member of several foreign scientific journals. He is an active professional agrologist and has served on two provincial land use committees. Al has received numerous professional awards. When he is not devoting himself to research and science, he enjoys spending coaching minor sports in Red Deer.
