Joanna joined the University of Alberta Industry Liaison Office in September 1999. In her current role as Director of the Technology Transfer Services team (part of the UofA VP Research and Innovation portfolio), Joanna leads a team of 11 in providing intellectual property management and commercialization services to University of Alberta innovators. Prior to beginning her career in technology commercialization Joanna spent a decade in production roles in the biomanufacturing industry, first with a private Alberta firm and later with the Alberta Research Council. Her educational background includes a BSc in Genetics and an MBA in Technology Commercialization, both from the University of Alberta. In addition to her day job with the University of Alberta, Joanna serves as CEO of Meros Polymers Inc., a majority woman-owned Edmonton company dedicated to commercializing advanced therapeutic delivery technology developed by Meros CSO, University of Alberta Professor Afsaneh Lavasanifar. Joanna is a member of the Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM) and the CIHR College of Reviewers.
