Nico Coallier

Nico Coallier is CTO and Partner at Nectar Technologies, where he leads AI-driven precision beekeeping research with a focus on bioacoustic and the product development.
His work intersects honeybee biology, deep learning, and survival analysis, focusing on bioacoustics for hive state and health prediction, multi-sensor colony monitoring, and leveraging bees as environmental biosensors.

He holds a background in ecology and statistics, later transitioning to computer science and applied data science. As a commercial beekeeper managing 150 hives at Miellerie Flavo in Quebec’s Eastern Townships, he grounds his research in real-world apiculture challenges. He is also co-founder of Cubee and an applied mycologist exploring fungal-based treatments to enhance honeybee immunity.

His peer-reviewed work appears in Scientific Data (MSPB, UrBAN), Communications Earth & Environment, IEEE Internet of Things Journal, Journal of Environmental Management, and Ecological Informatics, covering topics including air quality impacts on colony survival, foraging landscape assessment via remote sensing, and self-supervised audio representations for IoT-enabled beehive monitoring.
