Sarahi Arévalo

Marta Ana Sarahi Arévalo Arévalo is the owner of a demonstration plot for the TeleGAN project located in the Guachipilín community. Together with her husband and children, she has begun a process of restoring land characterized by challenging conditions, including high levels of stoniness, sparse vegetation cover, and limited water availability.
They have made significant progress toward this goal by planting trees, establishing pastures for soil cover, constructing rock barriers using available stone material, implementing living fences, continuous terraces, infiltration ditches, and live barriers. The family has also recently begun propagating various plant species to strengthen the establishment of living fences and continue restoration activities.
As part of the activities promoted by the project, the implementation of a silvopastoral system is currently underway, incorporating forest trees, forage banks, and protein banks. She has also received technical guidance on the design of livestock facilities and actively participates in the production and use of mountain microorganisms as an alternative for improving the productivity and sustainability of her farming system. Water conservation is another notable achievement, with a reservoir constructed within the farm.
The family’s organized teamwork is one of the main achievements of this experience. Sarai manages the farm together with her husband, who regularly participates in training activities alongside their children. Her participation in the “Mother-Daughter” workshop is particularly noteworthy. In addition, her husband participated in the “Father-Son” exchange visit with one of their sons, strengthening generational succession and the adoption of innovative practices.
Like other producers participating in the project, she has contributed to strengthening local epidemiological information through her participation in studies on hemoparasites and brucellosis conducted in her cattle herd.
